Fleurie Auction Creates 25K+ Meals for Hungry

Charlottesville29_Cover_D1-01

About last night.

We had a bidding war.

A wonderful, all-out bidding war.

The prize was Fleurie’s incredible auction item: dinner for twelve at the home of chef-owner Brian Helleberg, with wine pairings from his cellar by sommelier and wine writer Erin Scala.  And, after lots of enthusiastic back-and-forth, the winning bid was $6,500, which will create more 25,000 meals for the area’s hungry.

Earlier this week, the auction item for the donation from Helleberg’s other restaurant, Petit Pois, went for $2,000. So, combined, the donations from Helleberg’s two restaurants created more than  34,000 meals for the area’s hungry. Thank you to Helleberg, the bidders, the Scalas, and the restaurants for their tremendous generosity.

Petit Pois Fundraiser Honoring Brian Jones

Restaurant break-ups can be messy, but there could hardly be a more pleasant one than Brian Jones’ parting with Petit Pois, the restaurant whose kitchen he has run for eleven years. This is Jones’ last week at Petit Pois, and in tribute to his time there, the restaurant is donating $.50 of every lunch and $1.00 of every dinner to Jones’ favorite charity, Charlottesville Abundant Life Ministries. “We will donate the money in Chef Jones’ name to honor him for all the hard work and love that he put into the restaurant for the past 11 years,” says co-owner Brian Helleberg. “Over the years, Brian has been consistently generous with his time and talents to his church and other charitable causes, so supporting his favorite charity this week seemed like the best way to send him off.”

That’s just special.  Go eat at Petit Pois.

Petit Pois Auction

Pois

Here is your chance to experience Petit Pois like you never have experienced it before, while helping to feed the area’s hungry. It’s The Charlottesville 29 Restaurant Auctions, presented by McGuireWoods. Along with all of the other restaurants in The Charlottesville 29, Petit Pois has created a signature experience available to whoever pledges the highest donation to The Blue Ridge Area Food Bank. Petit Pois is generously donating the food and service, and Early Mountain Vineyards is covering the wine, which means the winning bid goes directly to the food bank.  Each dollar donated is enough to provide four meals to the area’s hungry. So, a winning bid of, say, $3,000 would mean not just a wonderful meal for the winner and their guests, but also 12,000 more meals for the area’s hungry.

Petit Pois’s talented crew will come to the home of the auction winner to cater a cocktail party for up to thirty guests. Though Petit Pois is not licensed to serve alcohol off-site, Early Mountain Vineyards will help the cause, as the auction winner will receive two cases (24 bottles) of Early Mountain wine. Meanwhile, Petit Pois will handle all of the food and service, featuring canapés, heavy hors d’oeuvres, and petit fours. Host the ultimate cocktail party, courtesy of Petit Pois.
