Wine Dinner of a Lifetime

For more than a decade, Fleurie has been among Charlottesville’s top destinations for lovers of food and wine. Fleurie will join one of the region’s best wineries, Lovingston Winery, to host a dream gastronomic experience for oenophiles. The auction winner and up to nineteen guests will sit on the veranda of Lovingston Winery and enjoy an over-the-top feast with show-stopping wines. Fleurie owner Brian Helleberg will dig deep into his personal cellar for rare and special bottles that sommelier Melissa Boardman will pair with the group’s dinner. As for the food, that will depend on the season, but from caviar to truffles to foie gras, Helleberg and Chef Joe Walker plan to create a meal that the group will never forget.

It’s the ultimate Fleurie dining experience: Wine Dinner of a Lifetime.

Estimated value: $7,500.

Note: The auction winner will schedule the experience at a mutually convenient time with Fleurie and Lovingston Winery.

Autumn Olive Farms, Nose-to-Tail

Petit Pois owner Brian Helleberg is so committed to supporting local producers like Autumn Olive Farms that he buys whole hogs at a time, which his kitchens break down for nose-to-tail cooking with magnificent results, like the 2018 Dish of the Year.

The auction winner and up to 24 guests will get a first hand look at why Helleberg finds Autumn Olive Farms to be so special: a nose-to-tail experience of the farm and its product, which is so revered, by chefs, diners, and award committees. Upon the group’s arrival, farm owners Clay and Linda Trainum will treat the group to an educational tour of the beautiful farm. Then, the group will sit down for a farm feast prepared by Helleberg and Petit Pois chef Brian Jones. Helleberg will buy an entire Autumn Olive Farms half-hog for the experience, and, for the feast, will roast larger cuts like shoulder. The remainder – loin, rib, chops, etc. – Helleberg will cryovac and freeze for the auction winner, so they may enjoy Autumn Olive Farms pork all year long. Plenty of local beer and wine will wash down the farm feast.

“I hope that this event will help illuminate the relationship between chef and farmer and showcase the importance of truly great ingredients,” Helleberg says.

It’s a culinary experience of a lifetime: Autumn Olive Farms, Nose-to-Tail.

Note: The auction winner will schedule the dinner at a mutually convenient time for Autumn Olive Farms and Petit Pois.

Pad Thai Auction: Thai Homestyle Feast

Pad Thai

Here is your chance to experience Pad Thai like you never have before, while helping to feed the area’s hungry: The Charlottesville 29 Restaurant Auctions. Along with all of the other restaurants in The Charlottesville 29, Pad Thai has created a once-in-a-lifetime experience for whoever pledges the highest donation to The Blue Ridge Area Food Bank. Thanks to the generosity of Pad Thai, North American Sake Brewery, and The Wine Guild, the entire winning bid goes directly to the food bank. And, thanks to the efficiency of the food bank, each dollar donated creates four meals for the area’s hungry.

The Pad Thai signature experience for The Charlottesville 29 Restaurant Auctions:

Thai Homestyle Feast

Pad Thai’s owners, Santi and Utaiwan Ouypron, once ran an eatery out of their home in Thailand. For the auction winner and seven guests, the Ouyprons will create a true homestyle feast of traditional, local foods the Ouyprons enjoyed in Thailand. Utaiwan is from Northern Thailand and Santi is from the city, and the feast will draw on both heritages.

The group’s experience will begin with a tasting flight from North American Sake Brewery. Next, the Ouyprons will pull no punches in treating the group to course after course of homestyle Thai food. Using fresh herbs from their garden and old family recipes, the Ouyprons will recreate some of their favorite dishes from their homeland.

To accompany all of the food will be a classic pairing: Gewurztraminer. For many wine-lovers, Gewurztraminer and Thai food goes together like peanut-butter-and-jelly, with the fragrance and spice of the grape complementing that of the food. The experts at The Wine Guild will pair Gewurztraminer with the food, and will contribute an entire case of it to the cause.

To allow the group to continue their enjoyment of wine, the group will receive four free one-year memberships to The Wine Guild. Members of The Wine Guild receive deep discounts and expert recommendations from The Wine Guild’s board members, who taste thousands of wine each year, and choose only the very best to sell to The Wine Guild’s members. These four memberships alone are valued at $800.

Best for adventurous diners, it’s the ultimate Pad Thai experience: a Thai Homestyle Feast.

Note: The auction winner will schedule the feast on a Sunday that is mutually convenient for Pad Thai. It is recommended that the feast take place in August or September, while the Ouyprons’ herbs are in season.
