Auction for Peter Chang’s Homestyle Feast

Champion_PeterChangDinner_2015_Winter_D1.5-2

Here’s your chance to attend a sold out, once-in-a-lifetime food event, all while helping to feed our area’s hungry.  Tickets to Homestyle III sold out in hours, and it’s no wonder. How often do you have the chance to enjoy a multi-course feast of the personal favorite dishes of Peter Chang, who many consider the best Szechuan chef in the country?  Eight appetizers, and then five (or more) main dishes, all served family style and all prepared by Peter Chang himself.  Plus, beer pairings by Champion Brewing Company.

We are auctioning off two tickets to the sold-out dinner, with all proceeds to go directly to the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank.  As cold weather approaches, the needs of the area’s hungry become more acute.  Make a generous donation to help feed the area’s hungry this winter, and be rewarded with a once-in-a-lifetime meal.  Because of the food bank’s remarkable efficiency, each dollar contributed provides four meals for the area’s hungry.  So, a bid of, say, $500 would mean 2,000 meals for the hungry.

The dinner is November 9 at Peter Chang’s in Charlottesville. Bidding opens at $200, starts immediately, and closes on Thursday, November 5 at 5 pm, eastern time.  You can place a bid on The Charlottesville 29’s Facebook page, or by emailing charlottesville29@gmail.com, subject line Homestyle.  Regular updates of the auction leader will be posted on Facebook, and the winner will be announced next Friday.  Good luck, and thank you in advance for your generosity from The Charlottesville 29.

Once was great.  Twice, even better. Now, we’re doing it a third time. November 9 is Homestyle III at Peter Chang’s.  Peter Chang, one of the nation’s most acclaimed Szechuan chefs, will again serve a feast of his favorite homestyle dishes, and Hunter Smith of Champion Brewing Company will be on hand to pair each course with a Champion beer.

First, an array of eight appetizers, and then five (or more) courses of main dishes, served family style.  All conceived and prepared by Peter Chang, himself.  Tickets for the first two Homestyle dinners sold out almost immediately.  At $55, it’s no wonder. Call now for tickets. (434) 244-9818.

Squeal or Scream at LOCKN’

Sure, it’s the music that draws thousands each year to LOCKN’, the festival which starts Thursday at Oak Ridge and LOCKN’ Farms.  But, the food is legit, too. With dozens of great vendors, the food seems to improve every year.  This year, a trio is teaming up to create the festival’s first full service, pop-restaurant.  Brookville Restaurant, Ivy Provisions, and The Rock Barn plan Squeal or Scream in a tented, sectioned-off area, complete with fans, TVs, and table-side beer service (at prices lower than the usual Lockn’ beer prices).

Guests will have the choice between two menus: one BBQ and one boil.  BBQ includes pit-smoked pork butt, beef brisket, and chicken, with baked beans, pickles, and Texas toast. Boil includes peel ‘n eat shrimp, Virginia clams, The Rock Barn sausage, corn, potatoes, Texas toast, drawn butter, and slaw. Plus, all tables get a “six-pack of sauces,”  with Carolina BBQ sauce, sweet and smokey BBQ sauce, Alabama white sauce, cayenne hot sauce, cocktail sauce, and tartar sauce.  For dessert, it’s a bag of Brookville’s famous chocolate chip cookies.

For advance reservations and more info, check the restaurant’s web page, or call Ivy Provisions at 434-202-1308. Reservations also may be available on site.
