Tavola Auction: Killer B’s Wine Class and Dinner

Here is your chance to experience Tavola like you never have before, while helping to feed the area’s hungry: The Charlottesville 29 Restaurant Auctions. Along with all of the other restaurants in The Charlottesville 29, Tavola has created a once-in-a-lifetime experience for whoever pledges the highest donation to The Blue Ridge Area Food Bank. Thanks to the generosity of Tavola, the entire winning bid goes directly to the food bank. And, thanks to the efficiency of the food bank, each dollar donated creates four meals for the area’s hungry.

Killer B’s Wine Class and Dinner

A longtime winner of Wine Spectator’s Award of Excellence, Tavola presents a very special wine and food experience in celebration of the three “B’s” of Italian wine: Barbaresco, Barolo and Brunello. Tavola wine director Priscilla Curley, a certified sommelier who also owns The Wine Guild, will lead the auction winner and five guests through an exploration of Italy’s three most revered wines. Guests will learn about the wines and the regions surrounding them, while tasting extraordinary, world-class examples of each.

To accompany the wines, Chef Dylan Allwood will let loose for a spectacular six-course dinner in Tavola’s private dining room. In addition, Tavola’s award winning bar managers, Steve Yang and Rebecca Edwards, will create a signature cocktail just for the group.

Finally, to complete the theme of Italian “B’s”, The Elysium Honey Co. will provide a variety of their Italian expressions, for use in preparing the dinner. After the meal, every guest will take home an Elysium honey sampler gift set.

Note: The auction winner will schedule their experience on a weekday that is mutually convenient for Tavola.

The Parallel 38 signature experience for The Charlottesville 29 Restaurant Auctions:

A Wine Lover’s Dream Quartet

The auction winner will enjoy a wine lover’s dream, in four parts.

First, the auction winner will receive fourteen bottles of Parallel 38’s most exclusive wines. Parallel 38 is well known for its wine, in part because of the background of co-owner Justin Ross. With certificates from the Court of Master Sommeliers, American Guild of Sommeliers, and French and Spanish Wine Academies, Ross once oversaw a 17,000 bottle wine cellar of an Alain Ducasse protege at the historic Tidewater Inn. There he was exposed to some of the world’s most sought after-wines, and at Parallel 38, Ross keeps a special Reserve selection of such wines. For the auction winner, Ross will clean out the Parallel 38 cellar of his most exclusive rare wines, and provide them to the auction winner. If ordered from the wine list, the fourteen bottles, listed below, would cost more than $5,000.

Second, the auction winner will have the chance to show off the wines at spectacular dinner for eight that will seek to do justice to the extraordinary wines: “A Journey Along the 38th Parallel in 8 Courses,” covering the whole parallel from Greece to Asia, and back again. Any of the fourteen bottles that the group does not consume during dinner, the auction winner may take home for their own cellar.

Third, the auction winner and seven guests will be treated to a Sunday afternoon brunch and wine tasting class. Seated at Parallel 38’s bar, the auction winner’s group will enjoy an over-the-top brunch prepared just for them. Meanwhile, Ross himself and a special guest from Charlottesville’s local wine scene will help the group better understand the art of tasting and enjoying wine. 

And fourth, to help the auction winner pursue their love of wine throughout their lives, they will have “free corkage for life” at Parallel 38, meaning they may bring their own wine, without the corkage fee restaurants typically charge for outside wine.

Bucket List Mezcal and Tequila Dinner Party

As regulars know, The Bebedero is home to one of the top selections of mezcal and tequila in Virginia. Yet, even The Bebedero’s most loyal customers have never enjoyed a night like this. The Bebedero team will come to the home of the auction winner and treat them and nine guests to an agave-lover’s evening of a lifetime. The Bebedero co-owner River Hawkins, one of Virginia’s top experts on mezcal and tequila, will walk guests through a series of rare and exclusive spirits, some of which cannot be found anywhere else in the United States. For tequila, there will be a mix of traditional approaches and modern innovations, with a focus on rare and exclusive bottles. As for mezcal, guests will sample unusual, wild agave varietals as well as those crafted with strange traditional practices, including some of the rarest artisan spirits in the world, from tiny distillers in rural Mexican villages.

To do justice to the spirits, Chef Kelvino will prepare his dream Mexican dinner – a six-course menu ranging from Veracruz to Puebla, each course paired with tequila, mezcal, or cocktails by Hawkins.
