Five Finds on Friday: Kendall King and Finn Downey

Today’s Five Finds on Friday come from Kendall King and Finn Downey of September Sun Produce, the Somerset farm that has recently launched The Little Market at Lampo. Tuesdays from 3 – 7 pm, September Sun Produce sets up outside Lampo (205 Montincello Road) and, joined by a few of their favorite farmers, offers the freshest produce from their farms. “Our farm is halfway between downtown Orange and Barboursville/Ruckersville, so we picked our favorite spots up in our neck of the woods,” said King and Downey:
1) Fried Chicken Sandwich at Exchange Cafe. “We’re not really sure what it means to pickle brine the chicken, but it works. This is our favorite fried chicken sandwich of all time. The hot honey is a great touch too.”
2) Biscuits at Spoon & Spindle. “This is the fluffiest cathead biscuit we’ve ever had and the flavor is killer too. It has the tiniest touch of sweetness which complements the intense savoriness of their bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich or gravy.”
3) Red Snapper with Spring Peas at Main Street Tavern. “This special was phenomenal and we hope Chef Jason Freed brings it back or puts it on the menu permanently. We love when they offer our broccolini as a side dish as well.”
4) Goat Cheese Fritters at Jack’s Shop Kitchen. “Jack’s is in a beautiful old tractor showroom with great booths and a delicious menu. The goat cheese fritters are a fun and unique appetizer, but they’d make a good post-dinner treat too.”
5) Braised Beef in Chili Sauce at Ming Dynasty. “A few winters ago we lost power for 36 hours right around the holidays, and we retreated to Ming Dynasty to warm up. This dish will do that. The chili sauce is an epic and tasty spicy broth.”
